Renew Grinnell Wiki: Solar Power Chapter
by Geoff Jacobs and Han-Shin Lin
Our Purpose
Provide a resource accessible to all locals who have access to a computer. This resource should enable them to change the way they live and eventually the whole town and county into an eco-friendly, cost-efficient, and perhaps even energy-exporting area.
For You
- Financial Information
- Projected Initial Cost along with the eventual Savings (in much less time than the expected lifetime of the panels themselves)
- Wise monetary allocation. (12 solar panels or 6 and a new fridge/laundry)
- Grid-Tied or Grid Independent: You can either keep your current connection to the power companies and sell back whatever energy you do not use or you can try to never pay an energy bill again.
- Local (Iowan) Success Stories
- Random Guy with Solar Panels
- ENV-295 and Professor Lonnie Gamble's Office ran off a few solar panels even in the dead of winter (and a bad one at that). The class did not have to make any energy sacrifices in order to do this (power point presentations were still feasible at least)
