How To Eat Local FoodsAs a subsection of the local foods group, we plan on producing a cookbook focused on local foods. We plan on getting lists of what is distributed seasonally by the Grinnell CSA (community-supported agriculture), products available in Grinnell for free (like lamb’s quarters or crabapples), as well as what is available from local food sources that are part of the local foods co-op that Hart and Vicky are working on, such as Paul’s Grains. The book will be divided by seasons, in order to encourage people to eat seasonally. For each food product, we will have a basic information page, including a sketching and an indication where you can purchase or find it. This basic information page will be modeled after a cookbook written in 2005 by Allie Berger, which has listings of all the vegetables available in Grinnell. For each food product, we will have a basic recipe, but also recipes for a variety of skill levels. We plan on both using our own and our peer’s recipes as well as obtaining recipes from GALFA (Grinnell area local foods alliance) members. We will either write the cookbook and attempt to publish it through Grinnell Press next year, or we will make the information and recipes available on the local foods website.
